Our History

tech109, Inc. was founded in April of 2011 and incorporated in July of 2011 by Larry and Michele Thompson of Galax, VA as a local resource for enterprise level IT support at small business prices. The company was founded on the basic principal of “quality of service” which we felt was needed in the Twin County area. Larry and Michele are the former owners of Virginia Link, a dial-up ISP which served the counties of Grayson, Carroll and Wythe, the City of Galax and the Town of Wytheville as well as a sister company which served Surry and Alleghany Counties, the City of Mount Airy and the Town of Sparta in North Carolina.

Larry is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer with an extensive background in information technology. He has worked for the Blue Ride Business Development Center in Sparta, NC as the Technology Manager, and most recently he worked for Virginia Tech as System Administrator under the Vice President of Administrative Services. His work for Virginia Tech includes support for the following departments: The Physical Plant, Planning Design and Construction, Virginia Tech Electrical Services, Environmental Health and Safety, The Power Plant, Mail Services, Printing Services, The Virginia Tech Airport, Fleet Services, and Parking Services.

Michele is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and holds her AS in Systems Information from Wytheville Community College as well as her BS in Occupational Technology from Old Dominion University.
